The Project

Set within the wooded landscape of Cedar Valley along Vivian Road, Sand Castle is conceived as a collection of rectilinear brick volumes carefully positioned among the existing trees. The residence includes a main house and guest pavilion, with measured proportions and strategically placed openings shaping views, daylight, privacy and the progression through the home. The architecture is intentionally restrained. Brick establishes a consistent exterior language, while expansive glazing creates moments of transparency toward the surrounding forest and allows the landscape to become part of the interior experience. Rather than relying on overt gestures, the house derives its character from proportion, material continuity and the relationship between solid masonry volumes and precisely framed openings. Inside, that restraint continues through a warm, minimal material palette and highly resolved detailing. Sculptural stairs, pale woodwork, seamless wall finishes, integrated lighting and carefully coordinated millwork give the spaces a quiet sense of permanence. The result is a home where architecture, interiors and landscape feel deliberately interconnected — sophisticated without being overstated. For Cerque, Sand Castle reflects the kind of project where execution depends as much on coordination and detailing as it does on construction itself. Complex transitions between masonry, glazing, millwork, lighting and interior finishes had to read as simple and effortless in the finished home. The completed residence feels calm and precise, allowing the architecture and wooded setting to remain the focus.
